New Mexico Orthopaedics opens $1.2 million Rio Rancho facility

Rio Rancho’s health care business boom continues. Amidst the build-up of Presbyterian Rust Medical Center, the opening of Hanger Prosthetics and more, New Mexico Orthopaedics just opened its third location along the Unser Gateway commercial corridor.

Located at 2101 Unser Blvd. SE, as part of emerging Petroglyph Medical Plaza, the 10,000-square-foot location is one-part orthopedic clinic and one part physical therapy facility. It was opened to better serve a growing patient base in the area. According to Michael Zambrano, marketing manager for the company, serious conversations about expanding to the Westside ramped up earlier this year.

“It’s something we’d been considering for a while. We realized after the New Year — with the city and patients moving in that direction — that we should have a presence on the Westside. We had been discussing it for two to three years with a lot of debate, but it wasn’t until late January or early February that we thought it was a good time,” he said. Though the decision-making was initially a slow burn, Zambrano said actual construction time on the location — from breaking ground to opening the doors — was less than 90 days in all.

The company invested $1.2 million to construct the building and “get it up and running,” and brought on two new surgeons in the process. Although no plans to expand further are currently on the books, Zambrano said the company might consider further locations in a couple of years.

New Mexico Orthopaedics diagnoses and treats musculoskeletal injuries and degenerative conditions through surgical and non-surgical treatment options. The company has operated in New Mexico for more than 30 years.
