PulteGroup acquires slice of Rio Rancho site for next homebuilding project

PulteGroup, which said earlier this month that the company was interested in purchasing more land in Rio Rancho, has acquired 161 home lots in the Cabezon development.

Cabezon is a master-planned community in south Rio Rancho, bordered by Southern Boulevard, Golf Course Road and Unser Boulevard. The 900-acre site is expected to have 2,700 homes at full buildout.

Jay Gillilan, president of PulteGroup’s New Mexico division, said Rio Rancho continues to be a popular choice among families.

“Cabezon has been a very sought-after place to live in Rio Rancho because of its excellent schools, close proximity to employment, major freeways, shopping and entertainment,” Gillilan said in a release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

He said the new homes will serve growing families and the 55-plus demographic, which represent about 65 percent of buying activity in the south Rio Rancho market.

PulteGroup (NYSE: PHM) is finishing up the last homes in another master planned community in Rio Rancho — Loma Colorado.

There are three communities in the Loma Colorado neighborhood, located at 3610 Colina Serena Place NE near Highway 528 — Rio Rancho High School and the Rio Rancho Sports Complex. Pulte has fewer than two dozen homes and home lots left in its Pinnacle, Apex and Meridian communities at Loma Colorado.

PulteGroup is active in other communities in the Albuquerque area, most of which are on the Westside except for its Mesa Del Sol in south Albuquerque.
